Interview Questions: Work History

Have you ever had difficulty working with a supervisor?

A common question asked at interviews is "Have you ever had difficulty working with a manager?" Answering questions about previous managers can be dangerous. You don't want to be portrayed as difficult and your prior experiences should be shown from the most positive perspective possible.

  • I had a challenging start with a supervisor once, because we had different expectations for the direction of the workday. Once we discussed it, we realized our goals were very compatible and we went on to work very successfully together for several years.
  • If I take the time to talk with my supervisor at the beginning of a project, we can all get off to a great start on the same page.
  • I can say that I have never really had a problem working with anyone. I try to find common ground with others and have the flexibility to get along with everyone's different personality.
