Interview Questions: Work History

What did you like or dislike about your previous job?

When responding to questions about your previous job, don't be too negative. You don't want the interviewer to think that you'll speak negatively about the new job or the company when you're ready to move on, if you get this job. It's better to let this conversation be about yourself and what you're looking for in a new role.

Possible Response

I enjoyed the team I worked with. It was a friendly and dynamic atmosphere where I actually enjoyed going to work each day. The leadership team was great too. They knew all of the team on a first name basis and tried to make personal connections. The outreach to local community organizations that the office regularly practiced was a bonus.

Primary reason I am leaving was that I was not challenged enough at the job. The company offers a great opportunity for a good entry level position.  After several years, I felt I was not able to reach my full potential due to the lack of challenges.  There was also no room for advancement within the company. I did enjoy working there and value the skills I developed while with the company, but came to believe that my skill set can be better utilized where my capabilities are more recognized and there is the opportunity for growth.
