Interview Questions: Work History

What challenges and problems have you encountered during your career? How did you overcome them?

When responding to the question "How did you handle a challenge?" at a job interview, include specific examples of how you handled a particularly difficult situation. Focus on how you researched the issue and contributed to finding a solution. Some good responses include:

  • During a difficult financial period, I was able to satisfactorily negotiate repayment schedules with multiple vendors.
  • When the project stalled, I coordinated the team which managed it to get the schedule back on track. We were able to effectively troubleshoot the issues and solve the problems.
  • A long term client was about to take their business elsewhere. I met with the customer and was able to better meet their needs by  improving the service we provided for their account to keep the business.
